How does your diet compare to the recommendations you received from the Food Guide Pyramid? How many servings from each food group did you consume?
I am horrible. Today all I had was junk food, no nutritious meals (or even a meal) at all. I did take a multi-vitamin and iron though.

Since one half of my family is on a heart healthy diet, I would like to make a fresh sauce for both of my proteins using my apples as the base. Any fast suggestions would be appreciated, Thank you and Happy Easter!
Maybe you could double this recipe and cook all of it with the Pork Tenderloin and use it as a sauce for both. My family loved the pork this way and since you use chicken stock as well, its pretty healthy:
olive oil to coat bottom of pan
3 apples, cut in ¼” thick pieces
1 tsp ground cinnamon
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 onion, chopped
2 cups broth
1 cup unsweetened apple sauce
In sauté pan, cook onions, garlic and apples in olive oil. Place in large baking pan. Cook pork in sauté pan, turning over pork after a few minutes. Place in pan.
Pour broth and apple sauce in sauté pan and boil. Remove from heat and pour mixture over pork in baking pan.
Cook at 350°F for 20 minutes.
Have a lovely dinner.

What should my food pyramid look like? I am a 13 year old female? What does the 2008 food pyramid look like? Should I follow the food pyramid? What should my calorie intake be?
My students use the Food Pyramid for their nutrition unit. Go to http://www.mypyramid.gov/ and click on "My Pyramid Plan." You can personalize your nutritional planning using this.
Another helpful site is http://www.calorieking.com/. This site lists thousands of foods' calorie counts, including brand-name and fast foods. It also tells you just exactly how to exercise (burn off) away that bag of M&M's you just ate!
Want to know how many calories you just burned walking for 20 minutes? Go to http://exercise.about.com/cs/fitnesstools/l/blcalorieburn.htm
The above three websites are excellent if you're trying to eat healthy, exercise, and lose weight!

Something with practical, easy-to-follow recipes, that I can buy online… Ideally would contain some vegetarian recipes!…
Thanks xxx
Although no vegetarian "chapter"- the Essential Mediterranean Cookbook has many vegetarian recipes woven in , the chapters are per country, - would make a great present as it is a gorgeous book!

My English Cocker Spaniel will be 14 in January. He had been bleeding from his mouth, and we found out it was due to a large tumor on his gums. The vet said that he would need surgery to have it removed and then biopsied. However, upon listening to his heart, the vet heard a severe heart murmur. When we took him back to the vet yesterday, they x-rayed his heart and saw that it was slightly enlarged. Although they were hesitant to perform surgery b/c of his age and possible heart condition and how the anesthesia may affect him, they went ahead anyway. He had to have 12 teeth pulled! They also removed the tumor, and cleaned his teeth. Although he pulled through surgery, he was bleeding and coughing quit a bit after, so he had to be kept overnight. The vet is going to give my dog a heart medication and wants him to be placed on a heart-healthy diet. Although we will talk more with the vet today, does anyone know how serious the heart murmur and enlarged heart may be?
It could be very serious, depending on how his health is otherwise. But medications can do a lot for your dog. They have had very good success managing dogs with heart problems on meds. One thing to keep in mind though, is to always be conscious of how your dog is acting. If he is "off" at all have him checked out in a timely manner because his heart condition can worsen.

Please tell me who invented this. I need to know! I am talking about the first original food pyramid. Thank you!
Okay, well, digging a little deeper into the US agr., does anyone know or heard of the detail of a few lawyers that the governemnt hired to create the food pyramid? The story goes, that they had no idea what they were doing, and it was a "job." And this turned America in the 50's-60's, to the very beginning of the blubbery mess we are in now, with an over weight society. Think of the grains we have always been told to eat so much of! Of course, McDonalds helped quite a bit, but we all grew up (those of us in the USA) learning this pyramid and having HUGE portions of pasta and bread at our meals. I have no idea if this lawyer story is true…but I think I have read it somewhere…I wanted to know if anyone of you have heard of it?

A couple of years ago, in Easley, SC's Ruby Tuesday's, they had a Mediterranean salad on the salad bar. It was predominantly green, the ingredients were finely chopped and it was almost like a chunky salsa - does anyone know what kind of ingredients they used? I would like to recreate something similar - it doesn't have to be exact….please help me if you know what I'm talking about or know what kind of stuff would go into a recipe like that.
Search a recipe for Tabooli on google
Its a finely chopped, green, arabic salad.
you can eat it plain or use it as a dip

I am not overwieght, 5'1, 115lbs and 25 years old, I could lose a couple pounds and tone up a little, but what I am more concerned with is my eating habits. I can eat whatever I want and my metabolism takes care of the rest. However, my son just turned one and I want to be a good role model but have no idea how. I kind of know what NOT to eat, such as the sweets, soda, chips and that sort of thing, but I have no idea what TO eat. I am also starting a workout routine to shape up since I'm kind of feeling lazy… so what I am looking for is a diet that is balanced and that will help me stay lean, heart healthy. I want more energy to keep up with my toddler, and I want to live a long healthy life. I'm not looking for a "lose weight diet" I'm looking for a "balanced diet". Any suggestions, even a breakfast, lunch and dinner kind of thing. My brother is on a high protien diet to build muscle, so anything that is more focused on women and getting lean is what I am looking for.
for the jerk who is immaturely calling names… I never said I ate the junk, I said I knew it was junk I just don't know what makes a healthy balanced diet…. and I'm in a size 2 so no I don't have a fat butt….. jerk
I think the "My Pyramid" website is super helpful. The gov't created My Pyramid to replace that old food pyramid we all learned in school, and the new one is tailored to your body shape, age, and excersize level. Their website is www.mypyramid.gov/.

I know this is kind of dumb but I'm kind of new.I was wondering how can I follow the vegetarian food pyramid.I don't really know how.How I can incorporate all the severings into my daily life?
http://www.mayoclinic.com/popupnowrap.cfm?objectid=C2B01356-4063-4D57-93AFCA7419C042BD&method=display_full
Do you hav any ideas?Thanks
Plan your meals.
1) Breakfast: cereal, toast, bagel, fruit etcs.. - this covers your daily carbs, better to have carbs in the morning versus at night.
2) Mid morning: yogurt, apple, protein bar. this will give you energy
3) Lunch: veggie sandwich, grilled veggies, veggie soup with lots of beans - you'll get your proteins and with the veggies, get your "a,b,c,d,e" vitamins.
4) Dinner: big spinach salad, or a leafy green salad, with a main course veggie dish. the salad covers your iron and more protein, with great vitamins. - b12
The main course veggie dish, - you can basically have what you want as along as it not to heavey in crabs. like don't eat loads and loads of paste or bread. but a little is good!
